AREAS AFFECTED: Sanilac; Lapeer; St. Clair; Macomb
DESCRIPTION: At 925 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Lum to near Capac to near Armada. Movement was northeast at 30 mph. HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Strong thunderstorms will be near... Richmond, Capac, Memphis, and Emmett around 930 PM EDT. Yale around 940 PM EDT. Brown City and Melvin around 945 PM EDT. Lakeport around 1005 PM EDT. Port Huron and Marysville around 1010 PM EDT. Other locations impacted by these storms include North Street, Goodland Township, Birch Beach, Lynn Township, Rattle Run, Amador, Goodells, Brockway, Smiths Creek, and Valley Center. People attending Armada Fair should seek safe shelter immediately!
INSTRUCTION: If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless,
smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud,
because it is thicker.
Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat
of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate
before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.

Precipitation in the form of water droplets is called rain.

Rain is the most common form of precipitation and happens with greater frequency
depending on the season and regional influences. Cities have been shown to have
an observable effect on rainfall, due to an effect called the urban heat island.
Compared to upwind, monthly rainfall between twenty and forty miles downwind of
cities is 30% greater.
