AREAS AFFECTED: Kalkaska; Crawford; Oscoda; Alcona; Manistee; Wexford; Missaukee; Roscommon; Ogemaw; Iosco; Gladwin; Arenac
DESCRIPTION: Heavy rainfall from thunderstorms this afternoon and into this evening has led to localized areas of 2 to 4 inches of rainfall, leading to saturated soils in places. Additional showers and storms with torrential rainfall will be possible later this evening into tonight, which may lead to an additional 2 to 4 inches of rainfall in some areas. This could lead to instances of flooding tonight, with particular emphasis on poor draining / urban areas and low spots. * WHAT...Additional torrential rainfall potential over areas that already saw heavy rainfall this afternoon. Localized additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches possible by Thursday morning. * WHERE...A portion of Northern Lower Michigan, including the following counties, Alcona, Arenac, Crawford, Gladwin, Iosco, Kalkaska, Manistee, Missaukee, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Roscommon and Wexford. * WHEN...Through Thursday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. A contrail is an artificial cloud, created by the passing of an
aircraft.
Contrails form because water vapor in the exhaust of aircraft engines is suspended
in the air under certain temperatures and humidity conditions. These contrails
are called exhaust contrails.
Another type of contrail can form due to a temporary reduction in air pressure
moving over the plane's surface, causing condensation.
These are called aerodynamic contrails.
When you can see your breath on a cold day, it is also because of condensation.
The reason contrails last longer than the condensation from your breath is
because the water in contrails freezes into ice particles.
