AREAS AFFECTED: Eastern Beaufort Sea Coast
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations up to two inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 65 mph. * WHERE...Eastern Beaufort Sea Coast. * WHEN...From 9 AM this morning to 9 AM AKST Monday. * IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Travel may be impacted. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Very strong winds could result in power outages. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There may be a brief break in blizzard conditions Saturday before conditions deteriorate again by Sunday. Wind chills as low as 70 below zero are expected at times through the weekend. Exercise caution while outdoors as frostbite can occur in as little as five minutes or less.
INSTRUCTION: Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.

A hole punch cloud is an unusual occurrence when a disk-shaped
hole appears in a cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, or altocumulus cloud.
When part of the cloud forms ice crystals, water droplets in the surrounding area
of the cloud evaporate. The effect of this process produces a large elliptical
gap in the cloud. The hole punch cloud formation is rare, but it is not specific
to any geographic area.
Other names which have been used to describe this phenomena include fallstreak hole,
skypunch, and cloud hole.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless,
smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud,
because it is thicker.
Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat
of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate
before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.
