DESCRIPTION: ...TSUNAMI ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE DEL NORTE COAST... * UPDATES... There have been no significant changes since the last statement. * LOCAL IMPACTS... A tsunami capable of producing strong currents that may be hazardous to swimmers, boats, and coastal structures is expected. Widespread inundation is NOT expected. * RECOMMENDED ACTIONS... If you are located in this coastal area, move off the beach and out of harbors and marinas. Do not go to the coast to watch the tsunami. Be alert to instructions from your local emergency officials Tsunamis often arrive as a series of waves or surges which could be dangerous for many hours after the first wave arrival. The first tsunami wave or surge may not be the highest in the series. * FORECAST TSUNAMI DURATION... Crescent City22 Hours * OBSERVED TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS FROM EARLIER... Crescent City 2.7 to 5.0 ft * PRELIMINARY EARTHQUAKE INFORMATION... An earthquake occurred with a preliminary magnitude of 8.8. * TIDE INFORMATION... Crescent City Harbor...Low tides of 1.8 ft at 1002 PM PDT on Jul 30, and 2.1 ft at 927 AM PDT on Jul 31. High tides of 4.7 ft at 349 AM PDT on Jul 31, and 6.3 ft at 405 PM PDT on Jul 31. Similar to cirrocumulus clouds, altocumulus clouds are characterized by cloud patches. They are distinguished by larger cloudlets than cirrocumulus clouds but are still smaller than stratocumulus clouds.

Altocumulus clouds most commonly form in middle altitudes (between 2 and 5 km) and may resemble, at times, the shape of a flying saucer. These uncommon formations, called altocumulus lenticularis, are created by uplift in the atmosphere and are most often seen in close proximity to mountains.

Cirrocumulus Clouds Next Topic: Cirrostratus Clouds

Cirrocumulus clouds form at high altitudes (usually around 5 km) and have distinguishing characteristics displayed in a fine layer of small cloud patches. These small cloud patches are sometimes referred to as "cloudlets" in relation to the whole cloud formation.

Cirrocumulus clouds are formed from ice crystals and water droplets. Often, the water droplets in the cloud freeze into ice crystals and the cloud becomes a cirrostratus cloud. Because of this common occurrence, cirrocumulus cloud formations generally pass rapidly.
