DESCRIPTION: The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a * Snow Squall Warning for... Southwestern Rio Arriba County in north central New Mexico... Northwestern Sandoval County in north central New Mexico... Southeastern San Juan County in northwestern New Mexico... * Until 945 AM MST. * At 846 AM MST, a dangerous snow squall was located 7 miles west of Counselor, or 38 miles west of Cuba, moving east at 40 mph. HAZARD...Intense bursts of heavy snow and gusty winds leading to blowing snow and rapidly falling visibility to less than one-quarter mile. Wind gusts greater than 35 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Travel will become difficult and potentially dangerous within minutes. * Locations impacted include... Cuba, Counselor, Lindrith, Regina, Nageezi and La Jara. This includes Highway 550 between Mile Markers 46 and 117.
INSTRUCTION: Slow Down! Rapid changes in visibility and road conditions are expected with this dangerous snow squall. Be alert for sudden whiteout conditions.

Freezing rain is a condition where precipitation which has fallen in the form of
water droplets reaches temperatures which are below freezing and freezes upon
coming into contact
with surface objects. The result of this precipitation is a glaze of ice which
can be damaging to plants and man-made structures. A severe onset of freezing
rain which results in a very thick glaze of ice is known as an ice storm.

Hail is a form of precipitation which is recognized by large solid balls or
clumps of ice. Hail is created by thunderstorm clouds with strong updrafts of wind.
As the hailstones remain in the updraft, ice is deposited onto them until their
weight becomes heavy enough for them to fall to the earth's surface.
Hail storms can cause significant damage to crops, aircrafts, and man-made structures,
despite the fact that the duration is usually less than ten minutes.
