AREAS AFFECTED: Lower Columbia River; Tualatin Valley; West Central Willamette Valley; East Central Willamette Valley; Benton County Lowlands; Linn County Lowlands; Lane County Lowlands; Cowlitz County Lowlands; North Clark County Lowlands
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog. * WHERE...Central and Southern Willamette Valley, Lower Columbia River and Cowlitz River Valleys, Tualatin Valley, and North Clark County Lowlands. * WHEN...Until 9 AM PST this morning. * IMPACTS...Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Fog may not be uniformly dense across the region and drivers should expect rapid changes in visibility on roadways. Dense fog is most likely to occur in sheltered valleys and near waterways including lakes and rivers. Locales less sheltered from wind may instead see low overcast skies where only hilltops experience reduced visibility.
INSTRUCTION: If driving, slow down and leave plenty of distance ahead of you. Pedestrians and cyclists should wear bright or reflective clothing to increase the chances of being seen by others in poor visibility conditions.

Similar to cirrocumulus clouds, altocumulus clouds are
characterized by cloud patches. They are distinguished by larger cloudlets
than cirrocumulus clouds but are still smaller than stratocumulus clouds.
Altocumulus clouds most commonly form in middle altitudes (between 2 and 5 km)
and may resemble, at times, the shape of a flying saucer.
These uncommon formations, called altocumulus lenticularis, are created by uplift
in the atmosphere and are most often seen in close proximity to mountains.

Cirrocumulus clouds form at high altitudes (usually around 5 km)
and have distinguishing characteristics displayed in a fine layer of
small cloud patches. These small cloud patches are sometimes referred to as
"cloudlets" in relation to the whole cloud formation.
Cirrocumulus clouds are formed from ice crystals and water droplets. Often, the
water droplets in the cloud freeze into ice crystals and the cloud becomes a
cirrostratus cloud. Because of this common occurrence, cirrocumulus cloud
formations generally pass rapidly.
