Fire Weather Watch issued February 13 at 1:05PM MST until February 17 at 8:00PM MST by NWS Goodland KS

AREAS AFFECTED: Yuma; Kit Carson County; Cheyenne

DESCRIPTION: Low relative humidity and sustained winds around 40 mph could lead to explosive fire growth for fires that ignite. Southwest winds could change to west behind a cold front in the afternoon. The National Weather Service in Goodland has issued a Fire Weather Watch for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 252 Yuma, 253 Kit Carson and 254 Cheyenne. * TIMING...From Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. * WINDS...Southwest to west 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. Peak gusts are expected to occur from the late morning to early afternoon. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 11 percent. * IMPACTS...Unpredictable fire behavior. Any fires that develop may rapidly grow and spread out of control.

INSTRUCTION: A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.

A wall cloud forms underneath the base of a cumulonimbus cloud, and can be a hotbed for deadly tornadoes.

Wall clouds are formed by air flowing into the cumulonimbus clouds, which can result in the wall cloud descending from the base of the cumulonimbus cloud, or rising fractus clouds which join to the base of the storm cloud as the wall cloud takes shape.

Wall clouds can be very large, and in the Northern Hemisphere they generally form at the southern edge of cumulonimbus clouds.

Altostratus clouds form at mid to high-level altitudes (between 2 and 7 km) and are created by a warm, stable air mass which causes water vapor to condense as it rise through the atmosphere. Usually altostratus clouds are featureless sheets characterized by a uniform color.

In some cases, wind punching through the cloud formation may give it a waved appearance, called altostratus undulatus. Altostratus clouds are commonly seen with other cloud formations accompanying them.
