AREAS AFFECTED: Sheboygan; Dodge
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...For the Winter Weather Advisory, mixed precipitation. Additional ice accumulations around one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. For the Winter Storm Warning, heavy snow and some mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 8 inches and ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph leading to blowing to drifting snow. Near blizzard conditions are possible later Sunday night into early Monday morning. * WHERE...Sheboygan and Dodge Counties. * WHEN...For the Winter Weather Advisory, until 4 PM CDT this afternoon. For the Winter Storm Warning, from 7 PM this evening to 4 PM CDT Monday. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
INSTRUCTION: Persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you must go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will keep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a hat will keep you from losing your body heat. Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary. Slow down and use caution while traveling. A contrail is an artificial cloud, created by the passing of an
aircraft.
Contrails form because water vapor in the exhaust of aircraft engines is suspended
in the air under certain temperatures and humidity conditions. These contrails
are called exhaust contrails.
Another type of contrail can form due to a temporary reduction in air pressure
moving over the plane's surface, causing condensation.
These are called aerodynamic contrails.
When you can see your breath on a cold day, it is also because of condensation.
The reason contrails last longer than the condensation from your breath is
because the water in contrails freezes into ice particles.
