AREAS AFFECTED: Little River; Hempstead; Nevada; Miller; Lafayette; Columbia
DESCRIPTION: At 1158 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking an area of strong thunderstorms extending from 25 miles northeast of Blevins to 6 miles south of Fulton, or extending from 27 miles north of Prescott to 12 miles northeast of Texarkana, moving east at 50 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. The strong thunderstorms will be near... Hope, Fulton, Blevins, Washington and Texarkana around 1200 AM CDT. Prescott, Emmet and Perrytown around 1205 AM CDT. Bodcaw around 1220 AM CDT. Bluff City and Rosston around 1225 AM CDT. Willisville around 1230 AM CDT. Other locations impacted by these strong thunderstorms include Oakhaven, Homan, McNab, Hervey, Boughton, Laneburg, Sutton, Patmos, Piney Grove and Mount Moriah.
INSTRUCTION: This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Hail is a form of precipitation which is recognized by large solid balls or
clumps of ice. Hail is created by thunderstorm clouds with strong updrafts of wind.
As the hailstones remain in the updraft, ice is deposited onto them until their
weight becomes heavy enough for them to fall to the earth's surface.
Hail storms can cause significant damage to crops, aircrafts, and man-made structures,
despite the fact that the duration is usually less than ten minutes.

A mammatus cloud is a cloud with a unique feature which resembles
a web of pouches hanging along the base of the cloud.
In the United States, mammatus clouds tend to form in the warmer months, commonly
in the Midwest and eastern regions.
While they usually form at the bottom of a cumulonimbis cloud, they can also form
under altostratus, altocumulus, stratocumulus, and cirrus clouds. Mammatus clouds
warn that severe weather is close.
